Emesco Development Foundation (EDF) is a reputable local pro-poor development organisation based and operational in Kibaale District in Mid-Western Uganda. EDF is duly incorporated as a Company Limited By Guarantee and Not Having a Share Capital according to the laws of Uganda and for that matter it is a not-for-profit development organization.
Principal Mandate of Emesco
The principal mandate of EDF is to enhance the social and economic empowerment of the rural poor, the disadvantaged and the marginalised, majority of whom are women, so that they can improve their livelihood situation and dignity.
EDF was founded in April 1998 and since this time it has experienced tremendous growth both in terms of service scale to the communities and institutional structures. Emesco Development Foundation is today one of the leading development players in Kibaale District.
Emesco Development Foundation is very active and well experienced in implementing rural development programmes in three principal sectors namely:Sustainable Agriculture
Water and Sanitation
There are a number of projects currently running in all the above sectors with different funding support from donors.
The work of Emesco Development Foundation is presently benefiting a rural population of well over 210,000 poor people in Kibaale District.
EDF networks with a number of organisations within and outside Uganda. EDF is a member of National Organic Agriculture Movement of Uganda (NOGAMU), the Sustainable Agriculture Training Network (SATNET) in Uganda, The Uganda Water and Sanitation NGO Network (UWASNET) and the Association of Micro – finance Institutions of Uganda (AMFIU). Beyond the country border, EDF is a member of the Global Water Partnership (GWP) and Regional Colleges and Schools Permaculture Programme (Re-SCOPE).
